Review: NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder

February 26, 2013 12:18 am · Posted by Sheshopsmakeup

Hi lovelies!!

I actually filmed this video review last week but didn't have the time to edit so could only upload it this week. Eventhough I have a huge backlog of blogposts to do, I wanted so badly to get this one out because it's a new product and I LOVE IT!!!

Watch the video and subscribe to my channel please!

The NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder is marketed as an invisible silky powder infused with photochromic technology which diffuses light and adjusts to new sources of light. This helps enhance the look of foundation and prolong it's wear.

When I first heard about this powder on Sophia's blog, I knew I had to give it a try. This is despite a part of me thinking that it would be very similar to the MUFE HD powder which is nothing but silica. I've tried the MUFE HD powder and it does not work for my normal to dry skin.

So when I first swatched this at the NARS counter, I was pleasantly surprised and somewhat impressed by how finely milled the powder was. I swatched a little on the back of my hand and was impressed by how silky and soft it felt. It was comparable to my Cle De Peau Translucent loose powder, except this one has got some fine shimmer specks which are virtually not visible on the face. I suppose that's what's doing all the magic in reflecting and diffusing light in the most flattering manner.

Best of all, this powder is paraben free, fragrance free and non-comedogenic - which means that it's perfect for people with sensitive skin.

Of all the parts of my face, the trickiest section is under my eyes because I do have fine lines and most concealer and powder combination tends to cause creasing or accentuate the dryness after a couple hours.

TESTS I PUT THE NARS LIGHT REFLECTING POWDER THROUGH:
1. Foundation + Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer + NARS Powder to set
I tried this the very day I got it and was very happy with the result. The powder was so fine, all that's needed is a light dusting with my Real Techniques Setting Brush to set the concealer. At the end of a normal work day, with 8 hours in a drying air conditioned room, my under-eye still looks as bright and creaseless as it did in the morning.

2. Foundation + Tarte Creaseless Concealer + NARS Powder to set
Though I was happy with the result of the first test, I wasn't convinced because the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer always works really well and it is virtually creaseless to begin with. Tarte concealer is slightly thicker in consistency but with very good coverage. At the end of a work day, still the same result, fresh creaseless under-eye and the area doesn't look like I had quite a thick concealer on.

3. Foundation + Amazing Cosmetics Concealer + NARS Powder to set
Of all the concealers I own in my collection, the Amazing Cosmetics one is the thickest in consistency and it tends to never ever work for the under-eye. This combo didn't produce as wonderful a result as tests 1 and 2 but that's largely because the concealer was ultra thick. However, in comparison with my other setting powders, NARS actually did really well. It almost felt like if NARS was a knight, he would be fighting till his armor started falling apart but yet held strong. haha!

So in conclusion, it is an amazing powder, go check it out at the NARS counter at Tangs. It's sold for $50.

It's a shame I don't have pictures of before and after application but I will be sure to do an updated post soon. Here are some pictures of me wearing this powder (ps: lighting was horrid!).

Thanks for looking!
